Today we’re talking tea, because much like their author, the characters in Sea are allllllways drinking it. 😄
Loose-leaf tea is where it’s at, and my favorite US brand is Harney & Sons. I LOVE most varieties of black tea, especially if it has a fruity flavor, like Black Currant or Harney’s Paris, but I love a stout English Breakfast or Earl Grey as well. I take my tea with a little bit of half and half and no sugar.
In terms of Sea’s characters, their favorite teas would probably be:
Talia – Strong, spicy chai. Lots of cream.
Wen – English Breakfast, with cream and a touch of sugar—when he remembers to drink it. Stone-cold cups of half-drunk tea are kind of his lot in life.
Caiden – Earl Grey, with a dab of cream and no sugar (he’s above sugar!).
Blaive – It doesn’t matter, as long as there’s cake.
The Baron – Old stale tea from the back of a cupboard, because he’s miserable and alone and he might as well remain that way.
Ayah – Wine.
Rahn – The tears of mortals, mixed with shadows and seawater.
And just for fun, here are some tea-ish quotes from Sea:
Attendants poured cardamom tea and spread breakfast onto the table.
*
She was absurdly drinking tea, steam curling up from the spout of a cracked earthenware pot, while the green glass lantern burned bright overhead.
*
The steward went down to the kitchen, where he began to prepare his master’s tea.
*
Talia sipped tea and ate sweet bread with raisins, staring down into the waves and trying to forget her dreams.
*
Wen sat scratching at a piece of music paper, the tea at his elbow untouched.
Well, I’m off to put the kettle on! Happy three months till release!!!!!
Until next time,
Joanna 🐋
